CAR Online today reveals the extent to which BMW and Mercedes are plotting to cooperate on future models. In a wide-ranging plan, the two German premium marques could join forces to take on the might of Audi, with its backing and economies of scale of the whole Volkswagen group and, increasingly, Porsche. BMW chairman Norbert Reithofer and his counterpart at Daimler, Dieter Zetsche, are coming to the conclusion that the two brands – for so long, fierce rivals – should work together rather than fight against each other.
Giorgetto Giugiaro has received honors from the South Korean Government for his contribution to the nation's fledgling automotive industry.
In a ceremony in Seoul, Giugiaro received the prestigious 'Order of Merit' from the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Myung-bak. The relationship between Italdesign Giugiaro and Korea stretches back to the 1970s, a period of significant growth for the Korean nation, stifled only by its lackluster automotive industry.
It fell to the Italian designer to invigorate an industry that survived on reassembling and rebranding foreign domestic models. Giugiaro's solution was the simple Hyundai Pony.

The Volkswagen Group has announced that it will put its range of Up concept cars into production in 2011. You’re getting ahead of us. As well as VW models, there will indeed be Seat and Skoda versions and all the cars will be built in three- and five-door form at Volkswagen’s Bratislava plant in Slovakia.
